To Whom It May Concern, With this letter, I would like to introduce for your consideration Mr. Scott Sutton. For three months during the summer of 1993, it was my pleasure to act as Mr. Sutton's immediate field supervisor for a number of archaeological projects conducted for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Though field conditions were unusually harsh, Scott's performance was exemplary on every level. In the lab, his completion of artifact processing and analysis of cultural material from a variety of American prehistoric and historic periods, as well as his contributions to final report preparation, were each superior efforts. In my experience over the years with dozens of archaeological field school students, Mr. Sutton compares very favorably. Indeed, he possesses not only the greatest potential as a field archaeologist, but also ranks as one of the best personalities that I have encountered in a long time, both within and outside of the discipline. His opinions are animated, his work is both disciplined and precise, and his constant good humor is contagious. In short, I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Sutton for any archaeological team and I am certain that he would quickly prove as valuable an asset to your crew as he was to our own. Sincerely Yours, M. Scott Shumate |
